Diagnostic Procedure
Echocardiogram
An ultrasound of the heart that provides detailed images of heart structure and function, helping diagnose valve problems and heart failure.
An echocardiogram is a non-invasive ultrasound of the heart that uses sound waves to produce detailed, real-time images of your heart chambers, valves, walls, and blood vessels. It is one of the most important diagnostic tools in cardiology and helps your provider evaluate how well your heart is pumping and whether its structures are functioning normally.
Echocardiograms are used to diagnose and monitor a wide range of heart conditions including heart valve disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, pericardial disease, congenital heart defects, and blood clots within the heart. They can also assess the heart after a heart attack or evaluate the effectiveness of cardiac treatments and medications.
The test is performed by placing a small transducer on your chest that emits sound waves. These sound waves bounce off the structures of your heart and are translated into images on a screen. The procedure is painless, involves no radiation, and typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. No special preparation is required.
At Garden State Medical Group, echocardiograms are performed in our in-house diagnostics center by trained technicians. Your provider will review the results with you and explain what they mean for your cardiac health. If treatment or further evaluation is needed, we will guide you through the next steps. Call (201) 453-2800 to schedule your echocardiogram.
