Diagnostic Procedure
Ultrasound
Non-invasive imaging using sound waves to examine internal organs, blood vessels, and soft tissues without radiation exposure.
Ultrasound imaging, also known as sonography, is a safe, non-invasive diagnostic tool that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of the inside of your body. Unlike X-rays and CT scans, ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation, making it one of the safest imaging methods available.
At Garden State Medical Group, we use ultrasound to examine internal organs including the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, thyroid, and bladder. It is also used to evaluate blood flow in arteries and veins, assess abdominal pain, detect cysts and tumors, and guide certain medical procedures. Vascular ultrasound can identify blood clots, narrowed vessels, and other circulatory issues.
The procedure is painless and typically takes 20 to 40 minutes. A technician applies a water-based gel to the area being examined and moves a small handheld device called a transducer over your skin. The transducer sends sound waves into your body, which bounce back and are translated into images on a monitor. There are no needles, no radiation, and no recovery time required.
Your provider may recommend an ultrasound based on your symptoms, physical examination findings, or laboratory results. In many cases, ultrasound provides sufficient information to make a diagnosis without the need for more invasive testing. Results are typically available within a short time, and your provider will review them with you.
Garden State Medical Group offers ultrasound services in-house at our North Bergen and Secaucus offices. To schedule your ultrasound or to learn more about what the procedure can evaluate, call (201) 453-2800.
